Thank you for the input

CC has helped me a TON with my college search and everything college.

I applied to six schools: USC, Cal Poly SLO, Santa Clara, USD, Chapman, & SDSU.

Objective:
SAT: 2010 (710 Math, 690 Reading, 610 Writing)
SAT II: Did very poorly, but didn’t send to any schools because none of my schools required it.
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.3
Weighted GPA: 3.7ish
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Probably 25%ish
AP (place score in parenthesis): Chemistry (1) lol haha - hated that class, will take APES & AP GOV this year.
Senior Year Course Load: 2 APs + 2 normal + 2 HEAVY electives.

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): TONS of stuff. Sports. Leadership ASB. Virtual Business team (competed in NYC & did really well). Lots of travel. Lots of Clubs.

Job/Work Experience: None.
Volunteer/Community service: 70 hours.
Summer Activities: Summer School one year…
Teacher Recommendation: Pretty good I assume.
Counselor Rec: Pretty good I assume.
Additional Rec: Has a friend of a friend who knew higher-ups at SCU write a rec for me for SCU.

Other:
State (if domestic applicant): California
School Type: Really good Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: >150,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

Accepted to:

  • Cal Poly SLO (got rejected early decision, but in regular)
  • Chapman (with 15k scholarship)
  • Santa Clara (with 10k scholarship)
  • SDSU

Waitlisted:

  • University of San Diego

Denied:

  • USC

Attending:
Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo!!
Really tough choice deciding between SLO & SCU though…

I’m pretty confident in my decision… and glad my life is on to it’s next stage.

Thanks CC for all the help! And goodluck to everyone else!

Actual results (pretty boring due to ED):

Stats:
SAT: 730 CR, 770 M, 800 W
SAT II: 740/760/790 in Spanish/Math II/Bio
APs: 5s in Bio, BC Calc, Spanish Lang (others pending senior year)
GPA: 4.02 when I applied, I believe

Small private school with impressive acceptance records. No big awards.

Applied: Brown University PLME (ED), UCSD. Accepted to Brown, revoked UC application.

Results for a high SAT/low GPA applicant.

Stats:
SAT: 790 M, 790 CR, 720 W (2300)
SAT II: 750 Math II, 740 Physics, 800 Chem
AP: 5 on Chem, 4’s on AB Calc, US History, and Literature
GPA: 3.65 UW
Rank: Unranked (but about 35%)
Course Load: difficult, but not appallingly so.

Subjective:
Extracurriculars: sports, no leadership, but all conference honors in a few.
Job/work experience: none.
Volunteering: a little bit.
Summer activities: lots of summer programs.
Teacher recommendations: one glowing, one pretty mediocre.
Counselor rec: fine, I assume?

Other stuff
State: MN
School: Private
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income: No financial aid
Hooks: recruited athlete at a few LAC’s

Acceptances:
Boston College
Bowdoin
Carleton
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Waitlists:
Amherst
Middlebury
Northwestern
Williams (dream school, I applied ED - this is the only waitlist I stayed on)

Rejections:
Dartmouth
Princeton
University of Pennsylvania
Yale

Moral: Ivies want high GPA’s to the exclusion of everything else. Look for schools that will overlook low GPA’s if the other stats are there. Schools that fit these criteria that I should’ve applied to but didn’t: Tufts, UChicago, Wash U.

I’m headed to Carleton in the fall pending an unlikely waitlist acceptance from Williams. I’m not ecstatic about my results, but considering the amount of effort that I put into high school, these results are about as good as I could expect.

I applied to fourteen schools: Tulane, Seattle U, University of Washington, Gonzaga, University of Portland, Azusa Pacific, Chapman (film production), Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount(Film Production), USC(Film Production), Loyola of New Orleans, Fordham, Scripps, and Pomona (rest applied for medicine)

Objective:
SAT: 1760 (660 Math, 550 Reading, 550 Writing)
SAT II: math II 650

Weighted GPA: I don’t know
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 10%ish
AP (place score in parenthesis): Chemistry (3)

Subjective:

i’m pretty sure that 80% of the stats posted on this website are completely fake.

check out college guides and websites. i wouldn’t trust a bunch of teenagers who have access to the internet to post whatever they want.

And what makes you say that?

What makes me say that is it is completely and totally impossible for this many students to have these kind of test scores, etc.

The entire site basically consists of a bunch of high school students complaining about getting 2350s on their SATs. It’s utterly ridiculous. I know quite a few people who have gotten into ivies with less than what many people here claim to have achieved.

But just a personal opinion is all

No, actually it isn’t.

If by basically, you mean .1-.2% of the posters, then I agree completely.

Of course. This proves what?

I seriously find it pointless to argue with someone on a college blog.

I’m sorry. I was just making a statement.

That’s all.
