I wrote an essay for the common app, and I want to use it for college park as well. However, none of the essay prompts for college park are similar enough to the one I wrote for the common app. The question I wrote about for the common app was "Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you." Could I just take that and use it as the "write your own question" essay? Or do you guys think that one of the other college park essay questions fit that common app question better? Thanks!

Aren’t you kind of asking, “Did Maryland say you could choose your own essay, but they don’t really mean it?”

I suppose that’s possible, but it’s just not very likely. Colleges and universities generally say what they mean, and if they’ve offered to let you write on a topic of your choosing, it’s a good bet that they mean it. After all, they’re trying to enroll a class of freshmen, not a class of mind-readers, right?
