Can my minor be totally different from my major?

Lets say I want to major in Comp Sci or International Relations but I want to minor in Astrology or Marine biology, is it possible? If it is, is it recommended or is it not useful? I know what I want to do with my life after college but I have other interests that i would love to explore.

Sure, it is a perfectly fine reason to have a minor. You need to plan out your courses carefully to graduate on time, though, as there may not be a lot of overlap in the required classes.

Yes, you can do that!

(Also, the minor you’ll be looking for is probably astronomy or astrophysics, not ‘astrology.’)

It’s also perfectly ok to just do a major and then fill the rest of your schedule with classes that interest you without doing all the requirements for a minor. This may be an easier way to explore 3 or 4 interests like you have.

Absolutely my DD2016 is majoring in Biomedical Science/DPT and is minoring in Music. Takes some serious planning for the schedule to work though.

lol I’m a math and CS double major, with minors in music and dance, so yes, it’s definitely possible.

Minors don’t necessarily have to be useful; you can take one just because you’re interested in the subject!
