Can my Parents Cancel my Applications

I used my Christmas money to apply to some colleges that my parents don't want me to go to.
One was Duke, and when I went to my interview last night, they figured it out.
They got mad and are planning to cancel the apps Tuesday. Can they?

They can’t. It has to be YOU who writes a letter withdrawing an application for the college to accept, or else people will be sabatoging each others apps left and right.

Duke? Why the h*** are your parents against Duke? It is an AMAZING college, the top in the nation. Indon’t know your stats and background, but you should be proud if you were accepted.

If they are mad because they can’t afford it, you need to respect that. If you are eligible for financial aid, maybe they don’t realize how much they could get help to pay for Duke. Other than finances, I am not sure why your parents are interested to prevent you from going to Duke. I hope you find a way to open the communications channel on this topic.

No they can’t (I’d make sure they don’t have the log in to your common app though). If you get admitted and they can’t afford it, that’s one thing, but right now it didn’t cost them a dime so they have no right to be angry. I’m a parent and I have huge respect that you used your Christmas money to apply to college. My child used her gift money to shop online!

maybe because they don’t back their students

If your parents are planning on paying for college and they can’t afford Duke, why bother apply? If it is because your parent just don’t like Duke (I really don’t see why not) then more power to you!
