I’m currently in community college (online course) and my professor threatened to drop students who hadn t completed the orientation. I have completed 90% of it but was unable to join a tutoring session at the allotted time. I’ve also completed almost 2 weeks worth of the homework already. " During the drop/withdrawal period of this course, if you do not complete any coursework for a one week period and you are failing the course, you will be removed from the course for excessive absences and I will assign you an “F” is what is stated in the syllabus. I haven’t missed and/or not completed work so how can she drop me?
You were told that you would be dropped if you did not complete the orientation. Did you contact the faculty person before the meting to explain why you could not attend and ask for an alternative? If you did not complete the requirement and did not arrange an alternative, you should expect to be dropped. Completing homework is irrelevant to faculty. Your best hope was speaking to the faculty beforehand and arranged a change.
The professor has learned over time that students who cannot complete the orientation in the specified time period will not be successful in the course. Instead of them failing out, the prof drops them. Because essentially the student is not participating in the course. Also the orientation is to get you to learn how online courses work, and if you can’t even do that which is easy, then how can you do well in the actual material?
Talk to your professor ASAP about this.
ALso why couldn’t you attend the tutoring session? You have to make courses you sign up a priority…or maybe now is not the time to take it.
