I took the AP English Language Composition test. I did amazing in the class, finishing with a near perfect grade. The other kids in my class barely got As. After getting scores, all of them got better scores than me.

I had a 2, they're getting 3/4/5.

Is it possible my test was graded wrong? I know I'm good at the class, doesn't that mean I should have done well on the test? I thought I earned a 5.

I seriously am in the same predicament. Exactly what you said. I have no idea what to do. I was expecting at the very least a 3. I’m unbelievably mad/sad.

Yeah. A- with a 5 is logical but it still depends on the school’s grading system, the percentage of student getting 5 in this subject, and the relative levels of the students in the class compared to national average. Only 10.3% got 5 in AP Eng Lang and I am sure there are more than 10% of her class got A+, A, and A- combined. So we worried a little bit.

Depends. Does your school inflate grades with homework?

A more accurate reading would be to go off their essay grades, not their entire grades.

I never did the homework in my AP class (only 5% of my grade, time could be spent much better on other AP classes), but I still got an A- because of my essays and tests. (By HW I mean worksheets/random stuff. I still read the assigned readings, of course)

I don’t know whether her school grades are inflated or not. Sometimes I worry it is as my D only got 1 A- (Eng Lang) in one semester but A or A+ for all her other classes in high school. From the APUSH class she took last year, it seems her class was way above national average. I guess I must be over worried. :)

@sejine my teacher definitely wasn’t an easy grader. i don’t think I miscounted bubbles but it’s possible…I’m pretty sure I’m having it regraded, I hope the essays are factored in.

If you managed a near perfect grade in an AP English class, getting a 2 is a downright mistake. Go and rescore because it makes no sense to have students who struggled in the class to do better than you. Good luck!

@working123 That’s what I’m seeing. I emailed my teacher to ensure that I should have done better, but even without their reply I’m going to have a rescore. I just have a feeling I did better, so I’d like to know.

@byahnoob It’s odd how most people are getting 2s, I agree!

@sejine I’ll be calling next Monday or Tuesday after my Carnegie Mellon visit this weekend. I really hope I get this sorted out!

Just because you got a near perfect score doesn’t really mean anything in your class. Paying for a rescore will in all likelihood do nothing for your score, and you will probably just have to deal with what you got. It’s just one score though and it’s not going to ruin your future, so don’t fret too much. At least now you hav eexperience for when you take that class in college.

I’m facing the same predicament. I finished each semester with an A+ in my AP English Language and Comp class, but received a 2 on the exam. I knew I sort of tripped up on one of the essays, but I didn’t think that warranted a 2!

I would say call about rescoring. It costs $25, but it’s worth it if you received anything less than a 3 and felt confident during the exam. Sure they only rescore the MC portion, but at least you’ll have some peace of mind that there wasn’t some sort of grading error. I know I’m definitely requesting a rescore.
