Can my son drop AP Statistics in senior year

My son will be graduating in 2022 , he took 3 APS , one of them is AP statistics, so far his grades in this course are not good, is it ok to drop at this time as it is effecting his overall GPA, does dropping a course effect his Transcript as a remark? He has enough credits to finish his graduation.
Just a note he is planning to take Finance Major in School of Business (still applying for colleges)

Why is he not doing well? My first thought is that statistics and business/finance correlate well so it might be worth doing a little analysis into why he is struggling before he decides to drop the class.

Whether the drop shows on the HS transcript depends on the HS.

But if he has already applied to colleges with the course listed in the planned / in-progress course list, he needs to update those colleges about the drop, so that if he is admitted to and matriculates to one of those, they are not surprised by the missing course on the final HS transcript.

no, he did not apply yet to any colleges and as per his High school Transcript until end of junior year will only be submitted for now.

We are also discussing that home, his school grading system changed this year, giving 80% to tests and quiz and only 20% wieghtage to Homeworks. So, whenever there is a quiz for 5 questions, he is did only 2 or 3 correct that is effecting his grade negatively, this is one reason, also since it is AP course and started just now in Senior year, he is struggling.

I think avoiding stress in senior year is important. If he decides to stay, maybe hire a tutor. But if it were my kid and they were struggling and stressed, I would encourage dropping it regardless of what goes to colleges and what their reaction might be!

Does he have another math class? Many colleges want to see math all four years of HS.

Is he taking AP stats in addition to precalculus? Did he take precalculus last year?
Has he taken cs courses?

College of business will want to see precalculus and a math senior year.

Just so you know, this grading system reflects what takes place in college and Finance is a math heavy major compared to general management, so he might want to apply for business without specifying finance and look carefully at the other concentrations in the college of business.

Define not good. C. focus, tutor, seek help.

D Drop

Regardless of major, etc getting a D solves no issue.

He’ll find a college to major in finance although I suspect he’ll end up majoring in something else.

Understood. A change in grading policy can disrupt grade patterns. He might not want to hear this advice but I would try to persist in the class (unless he is failing it) and try to adjust to the new grading policy. It’s actually more or less in step with what high schools in our area do for AP classes. It’s also a good preparation for college courses. He should take advantage of his teachers’s office hours to figure out what he got wrong and how he can improve his preparation for tests/quizzes. That’s just my advice. Good luck to him!

If he has already submitted his college app then I would try to bring up his grade. If not, you’ll have to make sure to write to the college and explain why he’s dropping the class. They will want to know of course load changes if it’s been indicated that he was taking AP Stat. They look at senior year course rigor. That’s why.

He has done Precalculus in junior year and now doing calculus in senior year which is good in grade wise.

Yes he has Calculus also

if he’s taking calculus, then he’s got a solid math class and doesn’t need Stats, an elective. DO check if it’ll appear on the transcript though.
