I applied as an econ major at the HSS college. I am unsure whether I will actually major in econ; I am also considering something like physics, computer programming, law, or politics. In short, I have varied interests, and have not really decided what I want to major in.

Would it be easy to dabble in courses from the other colleges at CMU to fulfill my interests in these varied subjects? And if perhaps my dabbling in these courses peaked my interest and I decided to switch majors, would this be easy to do?

Thanks for any help!

PS: I have been searching some other threads in this forum and seem to be reading mixed responses... some say that taking a variety of courses can be done and others portray it as more difficult...

Yes, dabbling in other colleges is very easy.

Switching majors depends on space and demand. It will of course be hard to switch into CS (you need to get an A I think in that core comp class).

Who portrays it as more difficult?

what other colleges?

A post from this thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=29411) where people say it is hard to take courses in other colleges and to have a "rounded" education:

I suppose that hearing it is easy to dabble in courses from the other colleges from AcceptedAlready, a current student at CMU is fairly reassuring. Hopefully you are correct, hehe.

what other colleges?
probably all of them except the Fine Arts College, though I may want to take some music theory classes there also.

Well I am taking CS courses right now without any prior affiliations with that school (as I'm in Tepper). I've also taken HSS courses and been offered science courses.

Most kids tend to stay away from CFA since they are crazy and obsessed but I know a lot of SHS and MCS kids on this floor who play instruments and dabble in CFA classes easily (also without any affiliations with the school).
