Can i get into UCB civil engineering with a b in one semester of physics? I have a 4.0 otherwise, and I do a fair amount of ec's. .

Someone from engineering admissions said the average gpa for admitted students in 2008 was a 3.7.

you’ll be fine.

Hahaha omg one b and hes freakin out

B is the new F

^ true … kinda lol these days, B’s lower my gpa and i hate it :(

for a lot of people with high gpas anything less than an A brings it down

but 1 B wont be detrimental to you

A- is the F. I got my first A- on Christmas morning – opening presents was *completely *ruined.

yeah, i hate the whole +/- system. im glad my cc is on an A/B/C/D/F letter grade system. but once i transfer, i dont know…

My A- was from UC Berkeley.

Pfft…you should see my thread. =/

Aw, don’t make fun of his (or her) B!

I think what the OP is worried about is that that B is a part of his major requirements. Although it’s usually okay to get a B for an IGETC course, your highest grades are supposed to be in your major classes.

I asked the same question to my counselor, and he said “A high gpa counts, but what really matters is what you bring to the table”

So in short, if you had really good ECs and straight As, you’d have been a stronger applicant, but 1 B is not detrimental. Just back your application up with good activities and don’t worry about it.

(unless, of course, every other applicant for engineering has an impeccable record. Then, you’re doomed.)
