Due to Pakistan's reputation as a country of terrorists, I have heard that US universities do offer Pakistani students chemical engineering. Is this true?

Um I think that is ridiculous and as far as I know completely untrue

Yes, completely untrue. I do know that the U.S.S.R. banned Jews from majoring in nuclear physics up until the 90s, but I've never heard of such an instance in America for any race, for any major.

Furthermore, I haven't ever heard anything along the lines of "Pakistan' - yeah, they're a bunch of terrorists." I don't think any college in the US would discriminate along country-of-origin lines.

Plenty of pakis in my school, never once have I heard of someone discriminating against a Paki as a terrorist. Being laughed at for your accent is much more likely, but most engineering students are extremely serious students, so there's not much bullying going around.

As long as an international can qualify for the visa needed to enter the US and attend college in the US, there is no ban to pursue any particular major.

BTW, never call a Pakistani a "Paki"... It is like calling a black man a *igger

I thought it was like Turk. Ya know, "Turks are from Turkey" so I figured "Pakis are from Pakistani". Nope, I learned the hardway

pakistanis don't study anything here but engineering, i don't know about chemical but they 90% of them are in eng. i don't see a reason why they won't allowed to study chemE

ratroll, if you look at the names for many places in the world, uzbekiSTAN, kazakhSTAN, turkmeniSTAN, tajikiSTAN, afhaniSTAN, kyrgyzSTAN, kurdiSTAN, baluchiSTAN, and pakiSTAN, they all have STAN in the name. It must therefore mean something, which is land or place. The word Pakistan means place of the Paks. PAKISTAN: "THE LAND OF THE PURE" This is the place where most people get confused and say paki instead.

The one dificulty with trying to apply for ChemE from Pakistan is getting the appropriate visa, which might be harder for a someone from Pakistan than say from Europe due to the current "security" measures in place.

LOL I'm applying to UC Santa Barbara in chem E...and I'm paki. :(

With this newfound info, do you guys think my chances of getting in will lower? I kind of want to go there since my dad went there too.

Pakis probably get in the same boat as Asians and Caucasians (reverse discrimination in terms of a.a.)
