Can Personality Get You Into Your Top Choice College?

Now I'm talking when you have the "academic" stats that put you in the middle 50% of the class (ie the good but not shoo in student) & I'm talking reaches like Princeton and such. If you have a great personality, which the adcoms should see when they read your essays/app, can that be the make it or break it point for them? Probably something that can't actually be answered but what do you think:

Would you accept one student over another who is similar (not necessarily the same) in stats than another because you love their personality?

yeah, i definitely would. personality is very important. colleges don’t want mundane people coming to their precious schools. hah.

I think they call it passion. But you’ll need to live it. The evidence should oooze through in our essay. ******** can only get you so far, def not to the top tier.

Definitely. At MIT, the only “Very Important” factor in admissions is “Character/Personal Qualities,” which MIT frequently calls [The Match Between You and MIT](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/pulse/the_match_between_you_and_mit/). It’s of similar importance at UChicago, where essays, which express personality, and “Character/Personal Qualities” are the top two most important factors.

Just look up the Common Data Sets of the schools in which you are interested. The importance of each factor in admissions will be listed. Like, here’s MIT’s: [MIT Office of the Provost, Institutional Research](MIT Institutional Research)
