Can posting on sites like Wattpad or FictionPress count as an extracurricular...

...if I gain a large following?

Writing takes up a significant portion of my time that I could be dedicating to soup kitchens or something (jokes), so I was wondering if it could count as an EC. I'm not interested in being the typical "NHS, Math Club, and Poor Kids. Oh my!" applicant, but if nothing I do right now counts as an EC I'm screwed.

Also, some of the things I write are rather controversial. If it can be considered an EC, would it be a bad idea to include it if there are stories on there that I wouldn't show my mother?

I would say it’s a bad call. Fictionpress has a lot of smut on it – not sure I’d want to lead an adcom there to form an impression of me. I don’t know if Wattpad is better, but if I were you I would focus on trying to get works published. That would be far more impressive, IMO.

@OP: random question, but is your user name a band?

I’m definitely going to try on get some of my stuff published, but if that doesn’t happen I want something to show for my writing since (like I mentioned before) it takes up a significant portion of my time.

Maybe I could put a link to my page so they don’t have to see that? My stories are controversial, but nothing smutty. I’ll figure out a way to hide the things that are more iffy.

And EnemyOfTheSun - Yes!

No links? I could’ve sworn that I’d read about people putting links to things in their applications. Ah well.

Erm…Nevermind then? Links are okay?

Cool! Nice to see a fellow Insomnium fan on CC.

On the question, in MY opinion, being ‘accomplished’ on Fictionpress could help set you apart (you would stand out from the rest of the writers for me were I an adcom). The difficulty is, the adcom would have little time to read your application and you would have to do a ton of things to prove your authentication. Maybe you could write an essay about it if that is all you devote your time doing.

Controversial? I say interesting.

By the way, can you pm me a link to your writing? I’d love to read some.

Definitely tell them about it.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Links to blogs or other private sites are NOT OK.

^Ditto Enemy. Can I read some of your writing too?
