can she do it!

ok one of my close friends (YES A FRIEND I SWEAR) asked for my help to decide what colleges she wants to apply for... here are the places she decided to apply for and the way she sees them

NYU
UC santa cruz
santa clara university
san deigo state
san jose state
UC Merced
CSU East Bay
San Francisco State
University of San Francisco
Dominican university of california

here are her stats
she has barely a 3.0 i think a 3.0009 or something

sat scores- first time 900/2400 next time 1250/2400 (and she relly doesnt feel like taking them again)

she has a lot of Cs on her transcript with her only As in mostly in choir and has never taken any APs or Honor courses

ECs
Link crew- 2years
leadership-1 year
basketball,track- 2 years
shes going to be a cheerleader for senior year
shes in the advanced ladies choir at our school
key club- 1 year

her only award was a singing award from our school

she traveled to the phillipines last year to work as a missionary during the summer*

she is really confident about all of her choices, and i'm not in the place to tell her differnt, you guys are the experts so tell me what you think!

NYU - impossible
UC santa cruz- match
santa clara university - match
san deigo state- match
san jose state- safety
UC Merced- safety- safety?
CSU East Bay- safety
San Francisco State- match-safety?
University of San Francisco-match
Dominican university of california- safety???????

sat: really LOW
gpa: not so good
ECs: maybe average

she definitely needs to improve her sat score....

u really think with her stats, most of those schools are safeties?

she is NOT gonna get into the Univ. of San Francisco (which btw is a good school), or NYU, or Santa Cruz. Like, those aren't even reaches.

she can get into rutgers. My sister did.

ok so what exactly should she mark off her list and what would you suggest instead ( california)

It would really help if she brought up her SAT score. Personally, I started out low with a 1500/2400 and now I'm upto a 1700/2400 and I'm going to take them once more. Bringing her score up can be done, but she really has to study. It is going to hurt her that she hasn't taken any honors or AP courses, but maybe she still has time to take a few? She could probably write an awesome essay about being a missionary. What does she want to major in?

has she ever considered community college?

lol actually the whole missionary thing was a church trip but she says shes going to say she was a missionary

but what schools would you absolutely mark off?

GinPA,
Where in the Pittsburgh area do you reside?

Well are you sure that those are her SAT scores? Do you mean 1250 out of 1600 maybe?

can she do it!

-should be a question not an exclamation

Community college seems like a good option.

1250/2400...wow sry but i thought i did bad

lazyloserlady:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCSC/UCM: Slight Reach

u already rated my chances flopsy!!! this is for my friend...... she listed santa cruz n merced as her safety, i guess shes wrong?

I'm not trying to be mean at all, but I find it hard to believe that she got a 900, which would be like a 300 on each section. Correct me if I am wrong, but dont you get like 200 points on each section just for writing your name? Did she fall asleep? The SAT is designed so that if you attend high school and take normal classes you should be adequately prepared to score around 500, which I believe is average. Seriously, I'm just curious, and I am sorry if that seemed mean.

well the first time she took it was the day of prom so basically she was in a rush to finish and get home (she thought itd be easy), the second time she only crammed the night b4, and i saw her that morning of testing because i was taking the SATIIs and her eyes were soo swollen from not getting any sleep.

i think that if she actually tried to study and made time for it, she would do better, but she doesnt understand that the SATs are a BIG THING! she thinks its no big deal, and thinks her ECs will get her into college.

she will probably end up giving handjobs for 5 cents behind a chinese resturant
