Hi I am about to start my freshman year of college and already plan on transferring out my current school by the beginning of my sophomore year. I really do not like the school I am going to and really need to get our of here without taking a gap semester.
I already know that the first school I want to transfer accepts Spring transfers but I don’t know if other colleges would understand what I’m trying to do. I’ve also already considered the loans I would have to pay back from my current school and all that as well.
So should I wait the whole year to transfer or transfer in the Spring while also applying to other schools for the fall of 2016?
If you need decent financial aid, a gap semester or gap year makes much better sense than transferring. Your best aid package will be if you can apply as a freshman.
Applying for spring transfer in your freshman year is messy. The only thing that the target institution has available to look at is your HS grades and test scores. Whatever it is you are doing in the fall semester will barely count at all. So if you didn’t get admitted out of HS, chances are you won’t be admitted for the spring.
Every time you transfer (or even just take one college level class), you generate yet another academic transcript that you will have to request umpteen times for the rest of your life. For that reason alone, try to avoid the whole multiple transfer thing. Either take a gap semester/year and apply to a new set of places that you like better, or if you feel that you absolutely must start college at place number 2 this fall and transfer out for the spring, do your best to like place number 2 so that you needn’t transfer to place number 3.
based on your name-USCdreamer21,
I’m assuming you are talking about trying to transfer to USC.
Did you apply there as a Freshman?
If so , and you were rejected, the chance of your being accepted as a transfer student so soon is nil.
IF you did NOT apply there , then take a gap year and apply as a Freshman applicant.
As a transfer student you need to give USC a reason to accept you, and that will only come if you can show that you have done well in college. 1 semester wont be enough time to do that. USC also requires all transfer applicants to submit their HS transcript.
