"a ton of people" What a clear term. You are clueless if you think any SAT score gets into NYU with the nod of a coach. I start this fall as a freshman in CAS. Through my family and friends I have met a number of NYU alumni. So I am familiar with the university.

It seems like you're willing to go to NYU with no aspirations academic wise. What do you want to study? I want to help you because this is obviously something you want a lot.

Getting into NYU just for the sake of being at NYU will not get you accepted even if you are a great tennis player. You will have to put some effort in your scores/resume/application to be considered even if you are a tennis recruit. On the slim chance you are accepted into GSP, will you really be happy just playing tennis at NYU, going through the motions everyday? You will be quite miserable if I do say so myself. Almost everyone at NYU has a dream or a goal they want to pursue, and judging by your last few posts, you're just desperate to get into the University. NYU is an elite school, your stats are obviously not on par at all with your incoming class, and it seems to me all you have going to for you are your tennis capabilities.

Figure out what you want to study in and play on that. If you apply to CAS based on athletics with nothing else, you're just going to look empty on paper. Be passionate on what you want to study and have tennis as your backup. Don't second guess NYU, they really do look for you as an individual, not as a potential success for their DIII tennis team.

NYU is not for me i realize that ... its more like a dream to be at Stern which I have no hope.... because reallly i realy really want a good business school? Got any that i could get inot that are good good.... maybe D III where i could play tennis as well. Those are my two passions.

Thanks.

Well, then you got nothing to lose, apply ED to Stern and pray to the mighty gods! Hey, there are a few odd decisions every year, and you may be one of them next year.

Honestly though, I say apply to CAS if you want in NYU that badly. You have a slightly better chance to be accepted since it's such a big college.

does it matter that my Grandpa went to NYU or do they only count siblings/parents?

It won't count that your grandfather went to NYU. Actually alumni relations in general means little.

Huh Elock? When did I say "any SAT score"? Go back and read my post... I explicitly said this is not the case. By "ton of people", I meant I know many people who were recruited for sports. Unlike you, I already go to NYU, so I know actual students here and the type of backgrounds they have. I was also recruited to play a DIII sport for another UAA school (UAA is NYU's conference if you didn't know). I decided not to go that route, but I do have some familiararity with how this process works.

His SAT score while lower than NYU's average isn't terrible by varsity athlete standards. Indeed, there are people walking around at NYU with similar scores who don't even play on sports teams (i.e. minorities, children of alumni, and some in GSP). His GPA is a 3.5 UW at a competitive high school school (NYU's average is about 3.6-3.7 for EVERYONE, not just people who get a nod from coaches). With a coach's backing, he is a competitive candidate, there is no question about it. Go back and do you due dilligence Ellock, it's clear to me you don't know what you are talking about.

"does it matter that my Grandpa went to NYU or do they only count siblings/parents?"

For legacy purposes, only parents. You'll even get an application fee waiver from NYU if one of your parents went there. Best of all would be parents, grandparents, etc., so you'd be 3rd or 4th generation. Siblings and grandparents only however won't mean much, but it definitely won't hurt, so I'd put it down on the app.

Birch, congats on your position with the admissions dept. of NYU. WOW, you have a ton of answers which I'm sure leave little or no room for rational discussion. I'll leave all the due diligence( one L ) to you. LOL

there was a "Big Red" guy on this forum 2 years ago who got GSP from Stern because of tennis, you should find him and message him.

I can't believe sports actually plays a part in NYU admissions and such...I thought NYU wasn't really a big sports school?

I think almost all big schools give athletes a shoe-in... no matter if they're big in sports or not.
