The first time I took the SAT's I got a 710 math 700 writing and 680 reading, when I retook I got a 680 math 690 writing and a 770 reading. So are schools going to take my best score from each section (710M 700W 770R) for a combined 2180 or are they going to just look at the second time I took it since the total is higher than the first time?

If it makes a difference the schools I'm applying to are Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland College Park, University of North Carolina and Georgetown.

As etselec (or Celeste?) says, some look at a single sitting, some combine subscores from multiple sittings, and some say they'll look at every score from every sitting. If all your scores are on the College Board report, then it's probably safe to assume that all will get some consideration, but there may be things such as merit scholarships for which the actual 2400-scale score is a key criterion.
