Thanks!!

It’s hard for people to chance international students as we have no idea of the school system and how much you made of the opportunities presented to you.

In any event, good luck!

well- thanks anyway :)

I did the full IB in Austria (M09 session. stress.). My classes were:

HL

 • English A1
 • German A2 (though I switched to SL in Nov of IB II cuz we got a new teacher & that just did NOT work out)
 • History.Europe
 • Maths (Sets, Relations & Groups Option)

SL

 • Spanish B One-year-course (M08 session)
 • Chemistry (Human Biochemistry & Environment Chemistry as Options)

I somehow managed over 650 hours of CAS in the 2yrs and ended up with a Bilingual Diploma.
Apart from IB we can’t really compare though, because I’ve moved countries/continents every 1-3 years. I have a lot of similar stuff though - like the MUN, and the tutoring. Have you done any decidedly Turkish activity that would make you specially different?
Like for me, Vienna is the City of Music which translates to dancing and the famous Viennese Ball Season. So I got really into ballroom dancing, got into show & competitive teams, got leadership positions, danced in concerts with the Dutch violinist Andre Rieu in Paris, Amsterdam, Arnhem & Vienna, … typically Viennese sport & cultural activity, in short.

I have no idea how I look to colleges, except that they seem to find my multi-cultural upbringing fun & interesting.
But of course, there are some massive cons with moving around, such as switching school systems every few years, which of course affects grades tremendously. I have no idea if my background compensates for my less-than-stellar grade report, but my SAT scores are comfortably in the middle of what Wesleyan likes.
So let’s just hope together :)

What are you predicted??
Mid to High 30s seems to be the norm for really, really selective schools. A friend of mine is chilling in Harvard on a 36, although I don’t know what he was predicted & so on.

Oh my God, I just wrote a huge post and accidentally refreshed :'(

Which TOEFL did you take? I’m not really familiar with it so I’m not really sure what a score of 95 really means, but I was just wondering because your CR and W look pretty weak and so Wes might have concerns regarding your proficiency. Of course, there are other factors that might convince them otherwise (essay, grades in Eng A2).

But yeah, I second Katie’s question. It would really help to know your predicted grades. And wow good to hear about your friend at Harvard. I’m paranoid they’ll rescind my offer if I get like 35 instead of 38 lol. Of course, to rescind my offer they’d first have to accept me… lol.

Your GPA is a bit low but since it’s IB, I don’t really think that says much. Your ECs look pretty good. What do you plan on majoring in?

according to wikipedia (yup, i’m a good IB kid) the internet-based version of the TOEFL is out of 120, the final paper-based ranges between 310 and 677

“A score close to 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or 250 on the computer-based TOEFL, or 100 on the Internet-based test, or a “7” on the IELTS, would be evidence of adequate English language ability. (A high score – 650 or better- on the critical reading section of the SAT may also demonstrate the necessary English language proficiency. In some cases, submitting the TOEFL or IELTS results is not necessary.)”

From their website. I guess 95 is pretty close?

thankk you both very much…
about my IB predicteds: our councelor doesnt say the grade for each class but I know that my overall is 38. Also 95 on internet based test is considered to be well above average. I know that my SAT verbals are even average but what can I say? Im not that good of a test taker.
I want to major in econ, and quite frankly, wes is the only liberal arts college that Ive applied. I knew that I didnt have that much of a chance at such a highly selective school but I wanted to give it a try.

again thank you both for ur comments :)

you’re welcome, i hope we helped.

i wish you (and all of us) the best of luck!!

I hate to break it to you, I’m Turkish and I know at least 7-8 people who applied to Wesleyan this year :)

well its good to know! because i talked with so many people this year that some doesnt even know about wesleyan.
you from istanbul or ankara?
