Claremont McKenna College and Vassar College are both tied as my #1 schools. I've visited both, spoken to my regional ad com, and am almost done with both apps. I was originally planning on applying ED II to CMC and regular to Vassar, but after talking to the ad com and hearing that the ED acceptance rate is something like 40-50% I'm considering applying ED I there. My transcript isn't the strongest, but I have a significant upward trend with mostly advanced, honors, and ap classes (3.38 frosh, 3.42 soph, 3.72 junior). I have the 4th highest SAT score in my grade (2010) and lots of strong ec's with demonstrated leadership and community/city wide impact.

Can someone apply ED I to a school and ED II to another? Say they got into that first school ED I, could they withdraw their app for their ED II school?

I think the whole point behind ED II is that if you get rejected from your ED I college, you still have a good shot at another one. I’d say go for the ED I to Vassar and, if that doesn’t work out, try the ED II at Claremont in December. Good luck!

Kabizzle is right that many people apply EDI and if that doesn’t work out they apply ED II somewhere else, but you can’t apply ED II until after you get rejected from your ED I school. You aren’t allowed to have two ED contracts pending at the same time. You can start the EDII app and get it ready but you can’t finalize it until that rejection comes in. Or you can apply RD to your second choice school and after an EDI rejection comes in, contact the school, tell them you are changiong your app to EDII and send in the ED contract.

The other reason some people apply EDII is because they are waiting on test scores or recs or just don’t have their essays done in time for EDI.

The ED acceptance rate at Vassar may be higher because the ED pool has higher stats. I would ask your ad com specifically if applying early decision is likely to raise YOUR individual chances of getting in, because an elevated acceptance rate is NOT the same thing as saying that you in particular have a higher rate of getting accepting.

If you’re so torn between CMC and Vassar that you want to apply ED to both…you probably shouldn’t apply ED to either.

As stated, you cannot apply ED to more than one school at a time, regardless of deadline.

neuron39 are you also on **************?

thanks for the answers all. i think i’ll just apply regular to vassar and early ii to cmc.

You can also apply EDII if your EDI school defers you to the regular pool, in which case you are considered an RD applicant at that school.
