Hey, so I've been worrying a lot about getting into a good UC. I'm a current junior right now and I don't think my stats are good enough. Can you guys please chance me to see if I am fit for UCs like Davis, San Diego, Irvine?

SAT 1: 1820
SAT 2: just took, scores are pending
UC GPA: 4.00

summer course before entering sophmore year: Algebra 1B: grade B

sophmore courses:
Spanish 2 - A/A
World History - A/A
Biology - A/A
Geometry - B/A
English 2 - A/A
Avid 2 - A/A

junior classes:
Spanish 3- A/A
Chemistry - A/A
AP U.S. History- A/A
CP English 3 - A/A
Avid Junior Seminar - A/A
Alg/2trig - A/A

I know my schedule isn't really rigorous but next year as a senior I'm going to be taking:
AP Physics B
AP Spanish 4
AP gov/econ
either AP CAL AB or Pre-calculus honors (depends if i pass, I am taking precalculus in the summer)
Avid Senior Seminar
CP English 4
Art 1

for extracurricular activities, I am a member in these clubs:
National Honor Society
Youth Committee
California Federal Scholarship (CSF)
AP Club
Key Club

I know this is weak as well, but I was considering volunteering my summer at a center for children and seniors. I already applied and I'm waiting for an email.

Also, if anyone can calculate me UC gpa for me that would be nice, thanks. I think I did it wrong because I don't know if the algebra 1B course counts as UC gpa. If it does, when I take precalculus in the summer will that count as well?

Alright guys, please chance me. I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

I would have to say all are reaches. If your school offered more honors/APs, your schedule would not make you competitive for the mid tier UCs. Your score is also below average (1880ish for the mids). Better chance at SC, R and M.

yeah my school offers around 10~15 ap courses. So I should increase my sat 1 scores? is there anything else I can do? I really don’t want to go to santa cruz, riverside, or merced…

Aim for leadership positions in the clubs you belong to, bring that SAT I way way up, and study hard for your AP Exams.

thanks for the advice guys. If worse comes to worse and I don’t get accepted into a UC, what cal states am I good for? Is san luis obispo a reach?

Sorry I don’t know enough about the cal states to give useful advice.

oh its alright. thanks though. can anyone else chance me or am i really stuck with riverside, merced, and santa cruz… :(

Depends on major, but unless it’s something like agriculture, SLO is as hard to get into as the mid tier UCs. The truth is SAT score can balance things, but you would need an extremely high score (say 2200) to balance a non challenging high school record. The UCs are just darn copetitive right now. I’d guess your chocies for CA public colleges would be one of the less competitive UCs, a good CSU if you live in it’s service area or 2 years at a CC and work hard to transfer into UC of choice.

ah I didn’t know the sat 1 is weighted that much, I guess I really do need to raise it. I only have 1 or 2 shots left in fall senior year. are the sat 2s weighted as much as well? or having around 600 good for those?

Your SAT score is right around the median/average SAT score for UCI. Definitely try and get your SAT score up to at least 2000

For all UC’s:

Berkely- Strech
LA-Strech
SD- Reach
Davis- Slight Reach
SB- Match
Irvine- Match
Santa Cruz- Safety/Match borderline
Riverside- Safety
Merced-Safety

I’m asuming yor from California, if not my ratings are all off.

yeah I’m from california

^agree with sclindsay except SB might be a slight reach as well, it might be tougher than Davis now…

Davis is becoming very popular

maybe it’s just seems different at my school. i guess its kind of a toss up. like a lot of kids from my school got denied by UCSB and got in at Davis. but then again, last year my sister got into ucsb and denied by davis.

with 2000+ sats, match

The big three are definitely a reach.
As for the rest, you’d definitely make merced riverside and Santa Cruz.
Davis and Irvine are pretty likely, although your SAT’s are a tad low. Still, I’d think you would be admitted with an appeal.
Good luck

does your school do ELC? that’s when you’re in the top 4% of your senior class, if you are then you’re automatically in for all the UC’s except berkely, la and sd. otherwise they’re probably reaches considering your lack of AP classes, like you said you’re classes weren’t that tough compared to what UC admission officers are used to. you’re probably in to all the CSU’s but cal poly SLO, sdsu and long beach may be slight reaches. your SAT is great for CSU’s and decent for mid UC’s!
