I keep hearing conflicting words as to how easy or hard it is to get in, so, I thought I'd come here (if that was a good or bad decision, I shall see. lol).

Anyway, I'm just going to post any and all things that will be on my college apps come Sr. year (I'm currently finishing out my Jr. year and Rutgers will be one of my top choices come the fall).

GPA - 3.15 (Should be about that cumulatively at the end of this yr. This GPA obviously excludes first semester Sr. yr. grades...)

SAT - 1940 (CR: 690, M: 610, W: 640) [Taking it again this upcoming Saturday...]

Class Council Representative (Jr & Sr. year)

Student Council Vice President (SC actually doesn't do as much as the individual class councils do. SC is just more of an oversight group which is made up of certain members of all of the class councils. All we basically do is promote the school's spirit week and keep one another updated with events/fundraisers that each of our grades are doing... I'd suppose it looks decent on college apps though [though I don't know how much Rutgers even weighs extracurriculars...] so I'm not complaining...

ERASE (End Racism and Sexism Everywhere) Club Officer

Opinions Section Editor of the school newspaper

Basketball (So., Jr., Sr. year)

Football (So. year)

Dad went Rutgers-Newark

Brother is currently a student at Rutgers-New Brunswick

I'm black... (if it matters. lol)

And I go to a decent high school in a North Jersey suburb (ranked 67th out of the top 316 apparently... woopie... 8-/) (if you were wondering).

So based off of this information, can someone chance me? Thanks.

Your GPA and SAT scores in my opinion should let you get in without much fuss. I wouldn’t count on much of a scholarship though. Go to mychanes.net for this kind of a thing. They’re better at it.

I don’t think Rutgers admit people based on race like other schools, lol. But, who knows?

Your SAT’s are really good though. But, your GPA might hurt you a bit (sorry) =( … but don’t let that stop you from applying because you never know! By the way, is this your weighted or unweighted GPA?

the fact that his parent attended Rutgers doesn’t mean anything and it will have no effect on the decision. however i’d still say that you would most likely get in because my GPA and SAT score were roughly close to what you got and i got accepted.

if his dad graduated from rutgers that is huge. Do you know how many people I know have gotten into a school just because one of theyre parents graduated from there. For example I know someone that got wait listed at TCNJ but got accepted into NYU the university in which her dad graduated from. I have many more that is just the most recent. Colleges do anything they can for alumni in hope that they will get some kind of donation from them. Alumni are huge boosters when it comes to athletic departments. how do you think colleges pay for these multimillion dollar coaches?

JBO86, this is Rutgers we are talking about. While it may apply it to other colleges, Rutgers honestly doesn’t care much about anything else besides GPA and SAT scores.

I’d be shocked if you are not in. Average SAT score for accepted students this semester is reportedly 1196 for the 2 parts… you are 100 points over it. Also your EC’s and everything else is a plus.
