Can someone chance me?

I want to apply to new college this coming fall. My class rank is 55 out of 345. 3.7 gpa and 4.1 weighted. My SAT scores are CR 590 M 470 and W 510. I also have 109 volunteer hours and take AP/duall enrollment classes. Do I stand a chance?

For the SAT, you need to score at least 600 on the CR and M sections. Otherwise, I think you have no chance right now. And if I’m not mistaken, New College admissions does not consider the writing score. If you haven’t already, I suggest you retake the SAT and focus on your CR and M.

Your GPA is decent, and your 100+ hours volunteering will def be considered.

I’m an upcoming sophomore at New College, so don’t hesitate to ask me any questions :)

Actually, they DO consider writing scores. That’s what got me in. But in all honesty: while the education here is top notch and you won’t find better elsewhere, you’ll be MISERABLE. The school is so small and everyone knows EVERYONE’S business (or spreads rumors). The students are pretentious, judgmental, “fake hippies,” self-absorbed, and uninterested in the community outside their friend circles. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere, because you’l have a much more comfortable and mature social environment while still benefiting from academic success.
(I’m a rising “senior” at NCF)

S has similar stats except he has a 33 ACT. We took the tour a few months ago and they were very interested in him. So much that when we were worried about lack of scholarship fund - everything is preset - they wanted us to get back with them closer to the end of his senior year and they would “see what they could do.”

Check the scholarship site - if you are eligible for a guarenteed scholarship, if so, I would guess you have a decent chance. Also with rolling admission, the earlier, the better.

As for the previous poster - expect those things at any school with a enrollment less than your high school. Comes with the territory.

my d is also a rising senior, and is eagerly looking forward to thesis-ing, cooking and hanging out with her suitemates, yoga and sunsets at bayfront, and many other unique NCF events. My understanding is that many students are quite involved in community service and contributing to the world around them. and the scholarships for in and out of state are generous. in fact if you have any learning issues, be sure to access the counseling center for support, I am told they are terrific.

sorry your experience has been so lacking Persea, hope you find a better 4th year.
