Any suggestion for me ?

Any suggestion for me ?

Is yours a top prep school like Andover? Are you looking for a lot of aid?

Nah, it is not at Andover level but it is a pretty tough school, ranked 92nd (I have seen it somewhere, not sure).

Yeah, I am look for a lot of aid. Then what do you think about my chance ?

If you like cornell, it would obviously be a reach, but having competed in an essay contest there is to your advantage.so maybe apply there? dartmouth is a reach too, but not a lost hope

thanks, for your suggestion.

What do you think of my chance at schools on my list ? Any more suggestion for safer schools ?

what state are you in? You sometimes have a better chance of getting into a school, especially a state school,if you live in that state.

I am studying in NY state now but I am an international student, not a resident so state schools should not make a difference.

So any chance for me at schools on my list and what other schools should I add on ?

The problem is your match schools don’t meet need. While there is no safety for an international and you need backups in your country, I add some less selective schools known to give aid to internationals like Grinnell and Bates.

Thanks. How good of a chance do I have at those schools on my list, especially ED for Bowdoin ?

Not good with current scores and even with a 2100 it’s really iffy. No one knows how much money these schools will give to internationals this year, and most bets are it will be less than in recent years.

If you come from a country that’s well represented, the competition will be brutal.

I am from Vietnam. I don’t know my country is well represented or not. However, I know that at those schools that I am applying to, there are some Vietnamese there. I know for sure Bowdoin is having only 1.

Ow, so my chance is not really high right ? But do you think I am in the “range” for those schools ?

any more input for me ?

bump, any more suggestion, comment for me ?

This may sound mean, but Bowdoin has been seeking out quirky applicants lately. Your EC’s might not be “interesting” enough for them.

With all the good schools on your list, you don’t need an Ivy. Ivies are overrated. You would work just as hard at Connecticut College as you would at Dartmouth, maybe even harder (recall that Dartmouth is full of wealthy underachievers). In a 21st century economy, employers value skills over school names; did you know that, on average, Harvey Mudd graduates make more than Harvard graduates?

Safer schools…safer schools…I don’t know, but I would suggest using the tedious but effective method of reading the Fiske guide from cover to cover. It worked for me—I found more decent safety schools than I needed!

Yeah, I am on the way to find some safer schools also.

SO you think my chance for Bowdoin is kinda low ? Which types of students do you think Bowdoin will consider quirky ?

I know about the quirk thing because I sent them an e-mail—and they sent one back! They said that they were willing to consider my application because of my having overcome a disability. In the end I elected not to apply for complex reasons, but I certainly learned something about Bowdoin:[unfair] they would rather have a community-service oriented student with lower stats than an obsessive college prepper with higher ones [/unfair].

Oh I see what you mean. I mean my circumstance is kinda weird. I came to the US to study 3 years ago and where I am studying, I don’t have many transportation options so I cannot involve in many Community service activities. However, I used every chance I could, especially the trip to Costa Rica last February. Will my circumstance be understood ?
