Can someone clarify what early action means

I was planning on applying early action to the University of Miami and the deadline for that is November 1st. However i just found out, that i need to send in my transcript and letter of recommendation BEFORE November 1st.. Is that correct? I thought i just had to send in my application and that my transcript and letter of recommendation were due later on. I'm a little confused. Also since i live in NJ would my letter of recommendation and transcript arrive before November 1st? Thank you for the info.

Colleges won’t hold it against you if your supporting materials get to them a week late or so, but they need everything that a regular decision school would need (except senior grades, unless those have come out already). It’s basically the same as regular decision… except it’s early…

It’s the best to send in transcript and recommendation by 11/1.
Aren’t you using Common App?

Your portions (the Common App, any supplement in the Common App for U of Miami, and any payment for the application) MUST be in by 11/1. I would suggest you submit a couple of days early if possible – the common app system does go down sometimes on busy days, and you don’t want that stress on the last day.

Recommendations and transcripts are due on 11/1 as well, but most colleges are a little more flexible because they know you don’t control those completely. If they are a few days late, shouldn’t matter. They will just start processing the apps they have completed. Now… some schools MAY be stricter about this. Check the website and email admissions if you are not sure.

Hopefully you have requested your recommendations already… it is a lot to ask a teacher to complete one in less than one week if you haven’t yet. If you haven’t done so, make your requests to your teacher(s) and GC today for those materials. Ask them to try to get them in by 11/1 for the EA deadline. If I were you, I would apologize for not checking the dates and asking them earlier if this is your first time talking to them about this (you dropped the ball by not figuring this out sooner).
