Can someone explain how the housing assignment and roommate selection work? Thank you very much!

:slight_smile:

you already put a deposit down for housing - its part of the $950.
around april or so there is a week where you can choose a roommate on myslice. you have to mutually select each other.
you don’t have to select a roommate. if you don’t you will be rooming with someone completely random.
in terms of dorms and rooms, that is also completely random and you will get that information late july.

@lsweisberg Does my roommate have to be in the same college/school with me? Or I can room with anyone I want?

@cqfang‌ you can room with anyone you want! they dont have to be in the same college. but if you want to be in a learning community, both you and your roommate will have to be in the same one.
(e.g. if you want to be in the education learning community and your roommate does not, you can’t be roommates)

@lsweisberg‌ I see. Thanks a lot!

on line it states that there is a higher success rate if you go random regarding roommates. I am surprised by this and don’t know if I agree. Can anyone add any insight? Thank you!

@oliver17 everyone is different.
i did not go random, my roommate and i had a mutual friend who set us up. we get along well, we aren’t best friends, but we live well together which is perfect.
I’ve heard horror stories about people who have not gone random and those who have. either way, living with someone for the first time is difficult and does take some getting used to.
the most important thing is to live well together.
someone on my floor who did random moved out of their room because her and her roommate did not get along. but one of my friends went random and is best friends with her roommate and they are living again together next year.
my advice is that if you are not going to go random, make sure you are comfortable with the person you are going to live with.
like i said, every pair of roommates are different and each situation is unique so it is hard to make a final decision about random vs. non-random
