You know how you are supposed to select your top school choice for National Merit?

Well, here is a situation. Suppose you REALLY want to go to school A (but it costs so much that if you don't get scholarship money, you won't be able to attend. and School A is more competitive than you B choice).

Do you still put school A as your first pick ....

or, do you put School B as your first pick since it it more likely that you will be offered full scholarship to school B if you do so (they offer a full ride Merit Scholarship for a person that selects them as #1.)?

If you put School B as first choice, will School A still consider you for scholarship money?

You can switch your #1 school until about about mid-april 2007(going by memory on the date).
Remember many elite schools give you no money for being National Merit. Rice is one of the few elite schools that does.
Good luck, and congratulations.

i echo that one... since, odds are, if School A is very competitive, it won't give you anything for National Merit. However, on the same note, if you put school B as number 1 and end up getting your National Merit Scholarship from School B but DON'T go there, you will not get any national merit money. That's the advantage of getting one of the non-school-based national merit scholarships, since those can be used anywhere. However, those are only 2500 dollars, not tuition... so i guess it is rather confusing! Good luck!
