Can someone explain this to me please?

Ok so this university im looking at had about 13,000 applicants. about 9,000 were accepted and 4500 enrolled. whats the difference between getting accepted and enrolled? thanks in advance

Being accepted means that the school reviewed your application and wishes to offer you a spot in the upcoming class. Saying that 4500 enrolled indicates the total amount of people, of the 9000 accepted, who decided to attend (matriculate) for the upcoming school year.

Yeah, students might be accepted to a number of colleges, but they can only enroll in one. So half of those accepted to the univ. you're looking at decided to attend, and the other half ultimately decided to attend elsewhere.

Using your numbers, the school has an acceptance rate of 69.2% (the number of people accepted divided by the number of applicants), and a yield of 50% (the number of people attending divided by the number of people accepted). You'll see those terms a lot when you look at colleges' statistics.
