<p>I've been told that there are grade curves in college but what exactly is that or how does that work?</p>
<p>basically, for every assignment they calculate the mean and sdev and weight your z scores (number of deviations above or below mean). Then they rank you based on that and assign grades accordingly (top 10% get As, next 20% get A-s, etc). It is NOT based on your raw score.</p>
<p>if a prof decides that the median grade in his class should be a B, then, after tests and stuff, he calculates the median on the test (like…75 or something) and that number automatically transfers to a B as a letter grade. Everyone who has around a 75 will get a B instead of the normal letter grade that 75 translates to…(D?)</p>
