Can someone explain to me the transfer process?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but since I am relatively new to the college thing, I just wanted to be sure that I will be doing things right.

The original plan was to only apply to UCLA in the Fall to see if I would get in. If I didn't get in, I would stay at CC for another year, then the following Fall I would apply to all of the universities I wanted to go including UCLA again.

Something happened today, where I won't be able to do that anymore and I will have to apply to all of the schools I would like to attend this Fall, including UCLA -- one shot.

One Fall semester starts, how does the process begin? I know UC has a multi-application website, so do I just go there and is it all self-explanatory?

Any advice and stuff is greatly, greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it’s very self-explanatory. When you begin filling it out, there is a series of check-boxes, one for each UC. You fill out the application and it sends it to each UC that you checked in the beginning. Very easy.

Oh, and one thing I wished I’d have known about, try to get TAG for one of the UCs. You can’t get one for UCLA, but many of the UCs will allow you to “Tag” them, and if you have over a certain GPA and have met the requirements, you’re guaranteed entrance into that UC.

Cool, thank you. What about the personal essays and such? There’s a prompt for that too in the application on the website?

I have an account on the UC TAG website and I have chosen to TAG to San Diego.

You can find the prompts at the UC website. A simple Google search will bring it up.

TAG is a contract that guarantees your acceptance–as long as you meet the bare minimum requirement it suggests.

Pretty much for UCLA is to have a very high GPA, finish the pre-req, finish IGETC, and complete at least 60 UC-Transferable units by the end of Spring before you transfer.

Try to meet with a transfer counselor at your cc. Every cc has them and their job is to help you and walk you through the transfer process. You do know that when you apply to any UC, you do that in Nov. for the following fall. So you would be applying this fall, 2012, for admission in fall 2013. You cannot begin to fill out the UC application until October. You submit your TAG applications in Sept. You can go to the website of the UCs you are interested in and look for prospective student links or transfer student links and all the info is there. But I do encourage you to meet with your counselor. The transfer counselors at my cc have been extremely helpful. I even got an email today from the transfer counselor reminding us to do our update and to apply for scholarships. They are there to help you so use them!
