When the students do their time on Sea Duty, how much do they get paid? I think it is an awesome experience, and my son is interested in USMMA.

I can’t remember the exact amount but, I believe its arond $800 or so…

I believe the current pay is around $920/mo.

Keep in mind…They will not get a monthly stipend like cadets/midshipmen at the other academies.

I understand that. It is such a great opportunity. A great education at very little cost, plus a chance to earn a good living and see the world. The only thing holding my son back is that he is a D1 rated athlete and he wants to play at the highhest level he can. He is currently being recruited by most of the Ivy’s, Navy, West Point, Syracuse, Temple, and other mid to lower D1 level programs. He really needs to look at this closer.

Tell him to follow his heart. In 4 years the sports will almost certainly be over. Where does he want to be 10 years from now?

just looking at it here in the company payroll program… It’s $890.10 monthly ($29.67 per day) to be exact…

plus the few bucks that the officer’s will throw your way if you’re a hard working cadet. I probably added at least a few hundred dollars to that total some months :)

Even if it were a dollar a day, it is an internship like no other.

Make sure your son picks his college based on what he wants in the future. If you and his coaches honestly think he has a shot professional sports, then you need to go to a non-academy college, because if he goes to any of the 5 service academies he will be obligated to service, and from what I understand none of the service academies are waving that requirement. There was recently a West Point football player who was offered a shot at the pros, but Army said, sorry kid you have a 5 year service obligation. Also, I’ve talked with many D1 athletes who were recruited to other service academies and when they got injured and were unable to play any longer were disenrolled. Fair? no…life? yes.

The one thing about USMMA is he will be able to participate in his sport, but the focus at KP is, Academics, Sports, Regiment. From my view, Academics and your future job will be what sustains you for your life.

remember, that the pay on board ship is minus social security, taxes etc. etc.
Plus whatever you buy while on board…

that being said, it really doesn’t matter, you’ll have a decent amount of money for a college student who isn’t allowed to leave campus often and therefore use it
