Can Someone Explain What These Numbers Mean!!!!!!!!!

Hey, i just got my "Provisional award from Case" by doing the online thing and i was wondering what it all means, each category and how much im going to have to pay back....... take a look

Description Amount
Case Grant-in-Aid $5,310
Case Loan $3,000
Federal College Work Study Program (FCWSP) $2,900
Federal Pell Grant $4,050
Federal Perkins Loan $2,400
Federal Stafford Loan - Subsidized $3,500
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) $1,000
Ohio College Opportunity Grant $4,992
Ohio Student Choice Grant (OSCG) $900
Provost’s Scholarship $15,700
Total: $43,752

If anyone has anything to say, plz do..thanks

Anything that says "loan" probably has to be paid back; anything that says "grant" probably doesn't - the one exception may be that "grant in aid" - don't know what that is.

I can't find anywhere on the Case website where "Grant-in-Aid" is defined. Elsewhere on the net, it sounds like these funds do not have to be paid back.

$08,900 Loans
$02,900 Work-study

$31,952 Scholarship & Grants

$43,752 Total financial aid

It looks like you only have to pay back $8,900 out $43,752 in financial aid offered. Does this mean that Case Western meets 100% of your financial need?

Keep in mind that there might be minimum G.P.A. requirements to keep a scholarship for future years (although Case's seem to be reasonable). Also keep in mind that in future years, grants can be replaced by work-study or loans. It would be a good idea to ask any college that offers you grants what percentage of second-year financial aid is grants vs. loans or work/study.

heres what i got w/ efc @1800

Description Amount
Case Grant-in-Aid $6400
Case Loan $2800
Federal College Work Study Program (FCWSP) $2,900
Federal Pell Grant $2300
Federal Perkins Loan $2,400
Federal Stafford Loan - Subsidized $3,500
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) $1,000
Ohio College Opportunity Grant $1398
Ohio Student Choice Grant (OSCG) $900
Provost’s Special Scholarship $18600
Total: $42198

yeah my EFC was 0.......so yeah.....looks like you ( woodie1113) only have like 8600 in loans and 2900 in Work study, well along w/ the 1800 expected contribution by your family...but looks like you got some pretty good aid

The $2,900 in work-study is probably 10-12 hours a week at $9-$10 per hour. Not a heavy-duty commitment.

A grant in aid is free money. Those are good awards. Any non-Ohio folks get their awards?

why don't you just call Case Western. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help you man.

If your planning on visiting Case the finacial Aid office will be more than willing to explain everthing to you.

I still don't see any change on that page.. when did you send in your FAFSA and tax returns?

what do you mean change?..... i sent my fafsa like late january, no tax returns yet

I guess I don't qualify for those things yet.. I've sent in everything (FAFSA just received on Feb 16 because we were waiting on my dad's W-2), but I only show my Trustee's Scholarship and the Ohio Student Choice Grant for a total of $26,600. I'm wondering if something else will show up after they've looked it over.

To the OP, have they completely reviewed your application, or are they still in the process of doing so?

im not sure........they sent me a letter so im assuming that they're done w/ looking over my admission.......the money i have up top is just a "provisional award" that i got after doing their online thing for accepted students
