Thank's a lot!

You can’t really generalize the dorms because there are a lot of different types. North campus is hall style, mid-campus dorms are all 8 person suites, and on south campus there are a mix of 8 person and 4 person suites. You can find all the information you’re looking for including floor plans for every dorm here: [UNC Chapel Hill Housing and Residential Education](http://housing.unc.edu/)

Also, print out the two PDFs at the bottom of this page. They were very helpful to my son and his roommate when they made their selections.

You’ll learn a lot by reading through the link posted above. For example, do you want a dorm with ‘standard’ visitation (guests any time) or ‘limited’ visitation (guests allowed only during certain hours)? Also, all the bathrooms are cleaned by UNC housekeeping EXCEPT for the 4 person suites. In those, the suitemates must clean their own bathroom but in exchange, their personal items can remain in the bathroom.

The lottery for freshman occurs after the 5/15 application deadline and you’ll learn what you get my mid-June, I think. The large majority of freshman are assigned to South Campus (lots of partying) but the dorms are newer. Most upperclassmen chose the old dorms on North campus (closer to classrooms and a little quieter since many are ‘partied out’).

To a very great extent, you ‘get what you get’ (unless you opt for an LLC) but it never hurts to try for your favorites.

Lastly, search this UNC forum (housing, dorms, etc.) as there have been many similar threads.

Thank you very much! Do you know the cost of each dorm/room type?

It’s all published on the links you’ve been furnished.
