Hi! I am currently a rising sophomore at a Community College (CC) in NYC majoring in psychology. I am compiling a list of colleges I want to transfer to for the Fall 2021 semester. My CC have partnerships with some 4-year colleges such as CUNY City College, NYU, Northeastern, and Smith. I currently have a 3.5 GPA (working on raising it)! One of my concerns is my grades from my first year of college, particularly my first semester because I failed one class but I retook it this summer and passed with a B+. My extracurricular activities include being a mentor on my college campus, volunteering at a mental health hotline, and having a summer internship with the American Red Cross.
How much of my grades will impact my chances of transferring? In addition, can someone recommend colleges I do have a good chance at being accepted? Thank you!
What’s your budget? Have you taken the SAT/ACT? The SUNYs don’t require it if you have a cc degree, but other states’ colleges might.
I am considering to take out loans if I need to. Ideally my budget for that will be ~$10K per year. I will be applying for financial aid and scholarships. I have taken the SAT and ACTs but none of the colleges I’m considering require them. I have thought about applying to SUNYs but probably won’t because when I applied to them as a first-year student the cost became a hurdle which is why I ultimately opted for the CC route until I figure out what my next steps are. Thank you!
Sounds like you’re in good position for CUNY City College.
What about Excelsior Scholarship at a SUNY?

The other colleges you mentioned may be too expensive. Run the net price calculators. They will require the CSS PROFILE application to determine your family’s financial need.
