Thanks for the reply! Irvine and Berkeley are my top 2 choices so it’s good to hear I’ll have good odds at getting into either. Oh and for Berkeley I’m not missing any prereqs, all done 4.0. I haven’t done the foreign language yet beyond IGETC but on admissions it says you can do it after you transfer. (Truthfully if I get accepted into Berkeley L&S I might just take calc 2, stats, and Econ my first semester and apply for the Econ major my first semester there.) Does anyone have any experience with Berkeley L&S and applying for a different major then what you were accepted as?

Yes this is possible I was accepted as Econ but many of my friends switched from poli econ to econ or at least tried. You will be disadvantaged in that as an Econ major I got to jump the waitlist of stats 20 and econ 100B where as you will have to ride it out and see if you can get in. If you don’t take calc 2, stats 20, and econ 100B in your first semester you can no longer do econ you must also achieve a 2.7 between these classes. This may seem easy but they are rigorous classes and the amount of math gets extremely agitating. I just did the exact schedule myself!

I actually didn’t realize that calc 2 was a part of my 2.7 so I got a really low grade in calc that almost eliminated me.

The most worrisome statistic you will see is that only 50% of transfers actually achieve the 2.7 required to stay in the major so be ready to make the library your new home haha.

It’s probably good you applied for poli econ its very hard to get into Berkeley econ with less than a 3.8 but I know many poli econ in your gpa range. You have a good shot.

mrandall, thank you for your valuable insight! If I could bother you with a few more questions and check my understanding:

I was under the impression that if I was accepted to L&S and applied to be an Econ major in my first semester, it would be no different than someone accepted to L&S that had applied as an intended Econ major, are you saying this is not true and that I will be subject to a wait list as a poliecon major? (Is this true even for the Econ class that is required by both majors?)

Also, at my current college they move veterans to the front of the registration line(even in front of athletes and EOPS) does UC Berkeley have any similar process with registration?

Also does 2.7 include the grades you transfer in? I have a 4.0 in all my major courses so it would help me if they are included in the calculation, however I do understand if only courses taken at UC Berkeley are used.

UCI, it will only affect you this first semester but all my friends who tried to get into the econ classes that were in poli econ did eventually make it in so you should be fine. After that you will be an official econ major (assuming you get the classes and GPA) and you will be treated as an equal. As for being a veteran you very well may get an earlier date. I’m not completely sure, I have a veteran friend but he had the same registration date so you may not but its worth checking.

The 2.7 is only for UCB classes that is why its so difficult haha! If it were cumulative it would be impossible to get that low lol!

Feel free to ask questions and if you get in and take those classes I can certainly give you some advice on how to succeed in them.

Thank you for answering mrandall, I will be sure to bump this thread up when I find out whether or not I’ve been accepted. Good luck this winter semester!

Can someone please chance me as well. I’ve posted on here and have yet to receive answers. I messed up and got a D my second semester and the next semester came and I didn’t do so hot but my GPA is 2.8 and i’m majoring in Clinical Nutrition hoping to get accepted into UC Davis. Assist classes are almost close to being done and after this semester I will only have 2 more classes left. My IGETC courses will be done with after this semester as well. Someone PLEASE give me hope lol
