So, I haven't really written an essay in over a year now, and I'm afraid that I'm a little rusty.
Could someone go through my essay and grade it for me please? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Assignment:
Is it always essential to tell the truth, or are there circumstances in which it is better to lie? Plan your response, and then write an essay...

The purpose of a lie is to offer some sort of benefit over the alternative of telling the truth. If by being honest one would inflict more harm than necessary, then it may be best to just lie.
I will use the anecdote of my brother Sid, who last year was diagnosed with a terminal condition. He wasnt told about the diagnostics till the condition was critical, by the time of which it did not matter anymore.
The weeks after the diagnosis, Sid would continue to live his life, blissfully unaware of the silent deprecation of his health. The point being that through prevarication he was able to live the last of his days tranquilly. This can easily be contrasted to his demeanour after being told of his condition; although he never said anything, I could see it in his eyes, he was afraid.
Sometimes the truth hurts, and I could tell that he didnt want the truth. He wanted to go back to the days where he didnt have to know that he was going to die, a lot sooner than any of us had anticipated. It occurred to me in those last few days, while I would sit next to Sid in bed, that we should never have told him the full extent of his condition, we should have just let him go, without him ever knowing of his approaching departure. It would have allowed him to live those last few days of his in the same tranquility as those that he had lived before, in the same sort of normalcy that any other child of his age lives life.
Sometimes the truth may prove to be more detrimental than a lack of full honesty, I therefore believe that in certain circumstances that telling a lie may be more appropriate than being honest, and Im sure that Sid would agree.
