Ok I'm currently about to apply to University of Arkansas. And I was just wondering if my chances are good. You see the required SAT score was a 930 for automatic acceptance and the ACT score was a 20. However, I received a 920 on my SAT and a 17 on my ACT. The requirements also include your GPA is above 3.00 and I have a 3.29 and I have all my 16 core units they require. I was just wondering with all that being said, do I still have a chance of getting accepted?.

And I was thinking of sending them reccomendations letters as well a letter of interest.

how much time do you have? maybe you should think about retaking either the SAT/ACT...

The deadline is august 15th. but i don't think i have enough time to retake the SAT/ACT. i mean im like right there. plus my high school grades are really good, its just I choked on both my test. i was extremely nervous.

Im guessing if i write them a letter and have reccomendations then it'll look better for me.

hmmm...is that for early decision? have you asked the school how they weigh in everything? it may be that you are good. I actually don't know since i'm also applying to schools this year too, but I would want to talk with the school and tell them.

Well the 15th is the final deadline for the fall 2008 year. I mean how bad could i be. my score for my SAT was off my 10 points and my ACT was off by 3. Its obvious imma have to go under review. but i just hope my letter of interest and my reccomendations will help me get over the hill.

you should be fine because you are so close

If you are talking about the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, then I have these stats:

admission rate is 68%, the average high school GPA is 3.5 and the median ACT score for admitted students is 22 - 28.

The info I have says that they don't consider essays and they consider recs as much less important than GPA, rigor of curriculum, rank and standardized test scores.

Have you contacted the university to see if they are still accepting applications?

I think if you are in-state, you probably have a good chance if they are still accepting applications. Recs won't hurt and may help, even though they say they aren't as important.

well i talked to the admission office today and they said they're going to stop taking applications on august 15th. it also says on the site.

and i was just going to send them a short letter of interest.
(basically saying i really want to go here and my scores are misleading to the student I am)
i was told they don't really look at essays so I think I'm gonna just write that.

also i live in texas.

How's this for an interest letter?. (i just hope they read it)

Hello my name is ...... I am a senior who has recently graduated from Arlington High School located in Arlington, Texas. I would like to start off by thanking you for taking the time out to review my application as well as read my letter of interest.

Attending the University of Arkansas has been a dream of mine since Jr. High school. This school has so much history behind it as well as promise in its future. Quite frankly, this is something I want to be apart of. There is an excellent sports program here, and unlike a lot of other colleges around, this one is passionate about its entire athletic program, just like me. The campus is amazing and safe, the students take pride in their school, there are plenty things to do outside of being in class, which isn’t easy to find these days. I’ve also come to notice there are over 200 student organizations to be apart of, there’s an awesome athletic center for an athlete like myself to attend, plenty of intramural sports to play, a great student to faculty ratio, and a significant number of sororities and fraternities to join. These are just a few things that catch my attention and make me want to come here even more. Not to mention, this school can give me a great chance to study my major in marketing. It’s really hard to find something about this school I don’t like. I’ve done a lot of thinking this year and I wanted to feel right about my college choice, and I think The University of Arkansas would be a wonderful place to begin the next chapter of my life. I’m very passionate about this school and I will always be a Razorback at heart no matter what the outcome of my application review may be, but it would feel real good inside to know that I’m an official Razorback.

In conclusion to this letter, I wanted to finish it up by saying a little bit about myself. You see although my SAT/ACT scores weren’t exactly all that great, I feel they are very misleading to the student I am. To me education comes first and there are no shortcuts to becoming successful, you must work hard to make it somewhere in life. I have worked very hard to get to the academic level I’m at today, through all my obstacle and downfall I was faced with this year. During high school I was ranked in the top 50% of my senior class of 505 students, as well as maintained a GPA above 3.00. I think giving me a chance to attend here this upcoming fall would do wonders for me. I’m constantly working hard in class and I get my work done, I don’t like to slack. I’m seeking education all the time, and I want what’s best for me. That’s why I feel like I deserve the opportunity to become a student here. I have the desire and determination to be successful and I wouldn’t disappoint anyone. All I can ask for is that one chance.

dude, it's a bad idea to post your entire essay here.

oh ****. what was i thinking. how do you take that off.

just delete the essay post... Just try and see if you get in; maybe they may overlook the 10point difference on the SATs, who knows.

it;s ok, I've done plenty of stupid things
