just decided to see about homecoming and found out many hotels are already booked!
we are newbies coming in from SoCal...
so how does all this work?
looks like we can't even buy tickets yet unless we are donors?
is it worth it to buy season tickets in the "cheap" seats even if you think you will only go for homecoming and maybe one other game???

not a huge football fan, just want to visit our daughter and see what all the hoopla is about!

if you've already ran though orbitz, priceline, and the likes, then theres not much i can help you with for airline tickets.

for a room, if all hotels are booked, you can do craigslist.org, find a family thats renting out a room for vacationers on short term basis.

if you're friendly folks who like to meet new people, www.couchsurfing.com is the way to go. you find people who are willing to let strangers/travelers stay at their place for free. i'm 21 year old male and done it a couple times, no problem. i'll be a contributing member of the site soon, so feel free to look me up.

as for football tickets, im new to university life, so can't help you there. you can always try getting a season and selling the other tickets you don't want.

Did you look for places online or did you call? My parents booked and said they couldn't find anything online but when they called they got a reservation. They haven't got football tickets yet -- they're waiting for the singles to go onsale.

my parents got football tickets with a package last year through the homecoming website, along with tickets to the other events. wait for them to go on sale there. then you will be sitting in the end zone with alum and other parents. probably be more fun for you.

you will get info mailed to you too... it's parents weekend.

You will definitely be able to order your game tickets later through the Parent's weekend mailing. If you cannot get a hotel in Berkeley, try Emoryville. It's close... about a ten minute drive from Berkeley (or, depending on the hotel, one or two Bart stops away). You can always stay in Oakland near the airport or, if you get desperate, get a room in San Francisco and take the Bart in. That should take about 15-20 minutes. For that matter, you can just pull up the Bart stations online and see if there is somewhere you want to stay. Some of the hotels will have a wait list for that weekend.

there's a great hotel on university a best western, just buy a southwest ticket, rent a car from the oakland airport. you'll be fine and there's plenty of shuttles.
