Can someone offer some advice on campus jobs?

Like when to find the job, tips etc.

as early as possible. I applied to jobs a month before school started. Research online, ask seniors. Early bird gets the worm.

I assume it varies by college.

At my own school, freshmen usually work for dining services. Most other employers interview, hire and train student workers in the preceding spring semester so that they are good to go right from the start of the semester. Signing up for dining services is super easy: we put our name, student ID and email on a sign-up sheet and complete payroll paperwork and we are good to go.

For upper-class students, my own college has a website where campus employers can post jobs, but most employers don’t use that. Instead they advertise their jobs “locally”: the librarian will put up a sign in the library that she’s hiring circulation desk workers; the math department will send an email advertising tutoring and grading jobs to the declared math majors; etc.
