I'm applying to Cornell's Hotel School and I really hope that I can get in. Thank you so much for your help! :)

Your grades are fine. There was a slight dip junior year, but you can probably make up for that with a strong showing first semester senior year.

The SATs are a bit low, especially the CR, but not impossibly so.

Why are you looking at the Hotel School, though, I believe that one of the factors for this school is a demonstrated interest in the hospitality industry. I don’t see that anywhere in the activities you’ve listed.

Overall – if you were a US student, I’d say that Cornell is a bit of a reach, and unless you can demonstrate an interest in hospitality, I’d be concerned.

I don’t whether being an international student makes it more of a reach or less of one.

Sorry I can’t be more optimistic.

Don’t be sorry, thank you for your honesty! :)

I want to be an event planner in a future, so I’ve tried to organize a lot of events within my school. Regarding demonstrating an interest in hospitality, I will do that in my supplement essay and interview questions. Hopefully that will make up for the activities that I do.

What I’ve noticed is your downward sloping GPA, so even though you have a good GPA overall, I don’t think it would really appeal to them. Another thing is your SAT-- your CR is really low. I think people who get admitted to Cornell have their CR scores as at least a 700, if not AT LEAST 680. Especially for us asians, they expect higher scores…sorry i sound really negative. idk if you really want to have a shot, go ahead, but this was just few comments from a deferred hotelie… :’(

Ah…I’m sorry that you got deferred, I hope you will get in!

Don’t be sorry if you sound negative, honesty is always good, especially when I’ve asked someone to chance me. What good would it do me if the people who reply to my posts aren’t honest, right?

Anyway, no matter how my grades are, I will still apply to Cornell. I believe that I should at least give myself a chance. I should at least try. If I didn’t try, then of course I wouldn’t get into Cornell.

Your chances aren’t so low that it’s not worth applying by any means. The downward trend in GPA is going to hurt you, even though your overall GPA should have been a strength. Your CR is also really low. Anything below a 650 is going to start really hurting your chances. Hopefully your essays are excellent, because I currently don’t see the strong service-sector experience, which the hotel school highly values.

I’ll say your chances are 15%.
