Please let me know if, applying to school of comp sci, I stand a chance or not. Thank you guys.

You definitely stand a chance, but, considering last year’s 15 % admission rate, it is impossible to guarantee you will get in. You should definitely apply though.

Oh ok, thanks man. Could you rate it as like low match, match, high match, or reach please?

Just an opinion, but I believe that SCS is a reach for anyone, no matter the stats. And even if the overall acceptance rate is 15%, the acceptance rate will be significantly lower for men. There are just too many qualified applicants and not enough slots. But that shouldn’t discourage you at all, you look pretty good…just make certain you have a decent back up plan and put maximum effort into your application.

Awesome, thanks busdriver…I was thinking of applying to UC Berkeley (in state), CMU, and maybe Univ Illinois at Urbana Champaign as my top choices. I was hoping that Univ of Washington would be a great safety because I could get in probably with honors…AND they have a GREAT CS program.

Yep, the University of Washington would probably be a great safety for you, with your numbers. They also seem to be increasing their out of state acceptances to help increase their tuition income. The only thing is, it is pretty tough getting accepted directly into the UW Computer Science program straight out of high school, I think they only accept approximately 20 kids directly into it. And for such a large school, that is a very low number. On the bright side, I believe a decent number of kids who go to the UW end up eventually getting into the computer science program, though they only graduate about 80 a year in that major…you can keep reapplying till you get in. The only thing is, it sure would be nice to not have to still be concerned about getting into your major during college, but with grades like yours, you’ll probably have no problem.

Oh I was reallly not aware of that issue with University of Washington…do you have any idea what their CS program looks like, in terms of SAT/GPA/extracurriculars, compared to my info?

I can’t give much on specifics, as I don’t know anyone who has gotten in CS from high school there. Maybe you could post that question on the U of W College Confidential. I do know that last year they said the average acceptance GPA into CS at the UW was over a 3.8. I know the UW is very big on the numbers, GPA and SAT, though they pretend to be well rounded. It’s just too big a school for them to do a good job reading applications. Try this link for some information, and definitely post on the UW site.
