Can someone please clarify this email I got?

Dear Andrew,

Greetings from Cornell University!

We are writing to provide a quick reminder about our SAT and ACT requirements. All seven of Cornell’s undergraduate colleges and schools require either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT with writing. In addition, each college/school has specific SAT Subject Test requirements as follows:

Agriculture and Life Sciences: SAT Subject Tests are not required

Architecture, Art, and Planning: Math (any level)

Arts and Sciences: Two subjects of your choice

Engineering: Math (any level) and a science

Hotel Administration: Math (any level)

Human Ecology: SAT Subject Tests are not required

Industrial and Labor Relations: SAT Subject Tests are not required

*Cornell does not participate in score choice and requires all scores be sent to us directly from the testing agency.

If you are considering applying to Cornell, the Common Application and the Cornell Essays & Questions will be available online August 1. Please be sure to review the Cornell admission requirements at
admissions.cornell.edu. Feel free to contact us at admissions@cornell.edu if you have any questions.

With best regards,

The Admissions Staff

Are these just recommendations or are they mandatory guidelines? Thanks

“We are writing to provide a quick reminder about our SAT and ACT requirements.”

Do you not see the word REQUIREMENTS?

Requirements = mandatory guidelines.
