Can someone PLEASE explain the capping UC GPA thing

I’m really confused as to how the UC GPA is weighted. Can someone here please explain to me how the capped 8 semester extra point thing works?

Say these are my 10-11 grades… can someone tell me what my UC GPA would be??

10th Grade
AP- B C
Regular-A A
Regular-A A
Regular-A A
Regular-A A
Regular-B B

11th Grade
AP- C C
AP- A A
AP- A A
AP- A A
Regular- A A
Regular- B A

You can only get a max. of 8 extra points (equivalent to 4 approved honors/AP/IB courses if you took them for both semesters) A=5, B=4, C=3, and a D or F doesn't earn the extra point.

By doing the UC's method (highlighted in red are the extra earned points):

10th grade:

4+3+4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4+3+3 = 45

11th grade:

3+3+5+5+5+5+4+4+4+4+3+4 = 49

Add up the total, which comes out to 94, and divide by the total semesters, which is 24.

94/24 = approx. 3.92

Stupid.

That means people who take 8 semesters of honor courses can get the same GPA as someone who takes 12 semesters of AP classes. :|

Oh man... what a bummer. I was hoping for at least a 4.0 :(

Do I still stand a chance for UCLA and Berkeley with a 3.9?? :(

it's going to be much harder than if you had a 4.0, but if you have uber test scores than you'd have a great chance.
