So when I look online I see something about a $1000 deposit for housing. Then, when I read another thread someone was saying the housing deposit is only $500 and the enrollment fee/deposit is $1000. So altogether is it really a $1500 deposit you have to make before you go to the school? Also, do these deposits actually count towards the costs of housing and tuition or are they just there to hold ur place? I know some schools actually put ur housing deposits towards the costs of ur housing once ur at the school.

Not only that but I thought housing was $600 and the costs of enrollment was $400 or something? Atleast that's how it seemed to be last year when I was interested in NYU.

Hi, MidnightG,

Are you an admitted transfer student or freshmen? For freshmen class of 2011, the enrollment fee was due 5/1/11 (Not sure what this year’s amount is; last year it was $300). For this year, the housing reservation fee of $1000 and housing application are due 6/1/11. The housing policy and fee have changed from last year so do not pay attention to what you read about the fee or policy last year.

The enrollment fee (amount?) and the housing reservation fee ($1000) paid by you will be credited to your fall 2011 NYU bill.

Wow that is a lot of money. So almost 1500 to hold your spot. I have never seen or heard of a school with an amount that high. I am not admitted yet. I am just curious. I am trying to learn more about NYU. I have an extreme desire to go. If I did get into NYU that probably wouldnt sway my decision…but its good to know its that expensive so I can be prepared.

Is it just me or was the housing deposit just $600 and enrollment fee $400 last yr for Fall 2010 admitted students?

No, Last year the enrollment fee was $300 which was due 5/1/10, along with a Housing Deposit Fee of $500. There was another $1000 Housing Reservation Fee due 6/1/10.

So this year NYU actually reduced the Housing fee by $500 ($1000 due by 6/1, instead of $1500 for Housing Reservation/ Deposit).

Thanks evolving,

So a housing reservation is different than a housing deposit?
What is the housing deposit for if it doesnt reserve your spot?

Midnight,

Haha, You got me there. It was NYU’s own policy previously. I wondered why there were two fees last year before the actual housing payment in the final bill. I guess NYU figured it out, hence the one payment for this year.
