I’ve looked on Cal Poly’s website, and it is very vague as to what you actually do during week of welcome. I understand you meet new people and look at what clubs are on campus, but can anybody tell me what you do step by step on a day by day basis? Why is there a $175 fee and what does it go towards? I’m a transfer student and I’m trying to decided if the 175 bucks is really worth it? Thank you!

WOW is a lot of fun and you do all sorts of stuff. When I did it, we went kayaking and ate at a lot of restaurants and went to farmers and some other stuff too. You also get to know SLO better through it and what types of activities there are to do. A lot of WOW groups go on hikes in the area as well. I’m not gonna go into too much detail, and I can’t accurately give you a day by day run down, but I’m sure someone else on here will be willing to.

In your WOW groups, there are usually two leaders and about 12 students, give or take a few. You do campus tours, go to presentations about various topics, alcohol awareness, etc. These are mandatory for the groups to attend. However, it doesn’t mean you specifically must go, as all WOW activities are optional for the WOWies. You also play a lot of ice breaker games with your group. Most groups get to know each other well and some become great friends.

I think it’s definitely worth the money. It’s a great orientation program and it almost feels like summer camp, it doesn’t even feel like you’re at school.

I agree—I would definitely find a way to be a part of WOW. It’s totally worth it. It’s the ultimate ice-breaker for first time college students. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
