Hello!

I understand that Gallatin is individualized study, but I just have a few questions that I cannot seem to find the answers to.

1.) For Gallatin, each student has to have a specific topic on what they're studying right?
For example: studies of heaven/earth/etc.
2.) Are the students allowed to study different areas? like business with literature, etc.

overall, what exactly is Gallatin and how does the "majoring" and studies in it work?

I’m not in Gallatin, but my RA and a few of my friends are.

1.) Yes, this topic that each student has to decide on is called their concentration. It’s not required for you to know what exactly it is you want as your concentration as a freshman. In fact, it’s more common for people to change their interests as they go along, as do many other college students who aren’t in Gallatin.

2.) Yes, of course! It’s encouraged to explore various areas. As long as you’re interested in them and find some way to combine them all into a concentration, you’re good to go. This is the unique quality of Gallatin.

I don’t know much else about Gallatin, but I do know that they’re allowed to take courses in other schools. Gallatin itself offers more seminar-type classes, so it’s common for a Gallatin student to not be taking any Gallatin courses during some semesters.
