So my top two choices, after being rejected from, well basically everywhere, are Syracuse and Miami (oh). I was accepted into premed at both schools. My mom wants me to go to miami because it is 12000$ cheaper a year. I want to go to Syracuse so I can row, and I like the students at SU 10000x more. Anyone have any convincing arguments from either direction?

Are financial issues really important for your family? That is, does your mom want you to attend the less pricey school just because she doesn't want to pay the money, or because that extra money will be a real hardship on your family?

That's an important thing to consider.

umm go to umiami.. dude if you're going to med school after this save as much money now..

12 k is alot of ****in money when you're poor and graduated.

If money is an issue, listen to your mother - after all, it's her money. Miami's a good school. Spend an extra $48,000 now, and how do you expect to pay for medical school?

It's her money and she can pay whatever she wants to. I suggest that if you want to see any of it that you choose to go to a school that she is willing to send you to.

I can't even believe this is a discussion. Compare the environments in January and the decision is simple. Would you rather be on the beach or would you rather be in 2 feet of snow? :D

A2Wolves, it's Miami University in Ohio, not in Miami, FL. Not too many beaches inland!

I think only you can answer this question. Miami University in Ohio is as good as Syracuse. So the question is whether your family can afford it? Please keep in mind that you will have to spend another 200k for medical school. If your family don't have a lot of resource, then the question is whether rowing is worth 48K?

Hope this help. :)

well, the financial difference will not break my family by any stretch. Its just 48000 that could be saved. I was under the impression that Syracuse was a much better school with a much more diverse student body. I also thought that it placed students better in med school?

I'd pick Miami even if the prices were even - lovely school with a group of normal, happy kids.

For your arguement, I know that Syracuse has a good med program, Miami is bigger -therefore more competition to get into Med. school. I'm all for where you want to go, although money is a consideration (I'm a parent with a son who also wants to pursue medicine and has some nice scholarship offers and has some offers with NO MONEY.) I also know the Ohio area, as well as the notheast area well.

Well my wish came true today.
We called the financial aid office, and my parents worked it out. Syracuse doubled my original financial aid packages, making Syracuse the same price as Miami.

Syracuse med is better... right?

anyone?????????????
