Is UPenn really better than Stanford or Columbia or MIT?

No, USNWR changes the rankings every year to get people to buy new editions. Sometimes UPenn is higher, sometimes it's not.

thanks a bunch!

Upenn has been #4 for hte last couple years

UPenn has been #4 for one year, and doesn't have nearly as much respect as Stanford or MIT. It is generally regarded as a bottom ivy along with Cornell.

UPenn is also a LOT easier to get into than Stanford, MIT, or Caltech. The raw statistics can't lie.
