Can someone rank UC undergrad history programs?!

I need help deciding which UC’s to apply to. I’m a History major at a CCC. Thanks!

All the UCs will give you a very solid education in History.

UCB and UCLA are probably at the top. The challenge is getting in. They are so competitive and don’t participate in the Transfer Guarantee (TAG). For History, San Diego, Davis and Irvine and perhaps Santa Barbara are about the same. Still pretty selective but, you can use TAG to know exactly what’s required to gain (UCSD doesn’t do TAG anymore.) UCR and UCSC and finally UCR. Those are far more achievable for most.

Tell us more about you and we can help steer you to the right school.

According to USNWR for graduate schools its

Berkeley, ucla, Davis, San Diego, irvine, SANTa Barbara SANTa Cruz

Im an honors student at a CCC. By the time I’ll be transferring, my GPA should be about 3.5-3.6. I was trying to decide what was a better school for History, UC Davis, UCSB, or UC Irvine. Out of these schools I definitely prefer UCSB, but if the quality of the program is that much higher at Davis or Irvine, I’d be willing to TAG with them instead. I’m going to apply to Cal, UCLA, and UCSD for sure though. Thanks for the help btw

Great work so far! Assuming you take the prescribed classes, UCSB, UCI and UCD should all be doable via TAG. If you strongly prefer UCSB and are confident you won’t be distracted - go there by all means. Though your experience and surroundings are vastly different - I don’t think there’s a discernible difference in education you’ll receive nor the job prospects out the other side.

You’ve probably got a shot at LA, B and SD too.

Good luck.

Also, I’ll have an AA and IGETC completed upon transferring so hopefully that helps.

@NCalRent My TAG to UC Davis was approved today! I haven’t completed my application for UCLA and Berkeley yet so I won’t be hearing from them too soon. Also, I just wanted to thank you, you helped me navigate through the intricate process of transferring!
