I have heard (although I don't personally know anyone that went to Nova) that you are required to take Theology courses. Can someone verify/reject this? And, if yes, (1) how many are mandatory and (2) are they limited to Christian Theology? I am not big on religion, but I am not bothered by it by any means. I just want to know (and I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times) how prevalent it is on the campus and in social functions. Basically: Is the "Villanova welcomes students from all religious backgrounds" claim as valid as it seems?

From what I know, that is true. I believe you only have to take two courses, but they are not cut-throat or anything… I’m not very religious either and wouldn’t worry about it.

From what I know, yes, but not limited to Christian Theology by any means.

You’re most likely going to see that at many Catholic schools. For example, I am positive that my brother had to take 2 semesters of theology at Notre Dame.

EDIT: And you could choose them yourself. Philosophy qualified.

Yes, you are required to take a theology class. Two actually- one intro, and one upper level. Intro courses are either Christianity in History or Intro to Christianity, however, you can write to the dean and request to take some other religion. Upper level has a lot of selection, anything from Buddhism to “Love, Marriage & Religion”. Hope that helps!

Also, I’m Christian, but I have never really felt that big of a religious presence here. I mean sure, there are people that go to Church every weekend but they certainly don’t make it a problem for anyone that doesn’t. I’ve only been to Church here like 3 times. It’s what you make of it. I really don’t think students judge others on their religion.

Ok, thanks to everyone for the input. Now, that’s one less thing I will need to consider in my college search…
