everyday life at uva will be...much like everyday life at any school. class, studying, eating, haning out, doing some sort of e.c. if you want to. You might start to go out a lot more - people go out 5 nights a week if their schedule allows it - but first year no one really does that.

c-ville is okay. its not the sweetest town in the world that some people make it out to be. there's a strip of bars right by the school called the corner, always a big hang out. you can go downtown to concerts at starr hill, or to one of the bars downtown if you can get rides back and forth. Apparantly the walking mall in downtown c-ville is one of the biggest in the country. You can also travel up route 29 and theres a small mall, and a strip mall with some decent stores. theres 3 or 4 movie theatres around. Townies can be sketchy, I would say for the most part relations between the townies and the students is a little strained.

Most of the people at the school are nice. I wouldn't call people clique-y, but you'll find that more in the frat system. I would venture to say that the majority of people at this school played on a varisty team in high school - but then again they are were the "smart-jocks" type of people. Unless for the recruited athletes - you're not going to find a preeminence of jocks. Most girls arn't bimbo's - but there definately are a couple I can think of off the top fo my head.

The dining halls are okay. Nothing spectacular. Therea arn't kitchens in first year dorms so you can't cook for yourself.

The 2 places you're most likely to live as a first year are Old Dorms or New Dorms. Old dorms look nicer from the outside, but aren't that great on the inside. Lots of cindar block. Hall style. The school does clean the bathrooms of Old Dorms though every day. New Dorms are a little farther away, they arn't as nice from the outside (save the 2 new ones) but are much nicer inside. They are suite style, and they have large rooms with real walls. The 2 actually new buildings in new dorms are hall style and are really nice.

Party scene is what you make of it. You'll never not be able to find a party thursday-saturday night. And when you can't go to a party theres always bars. The frats all have their unique steriotypes - but theres way to many to list. Its much easier to come here and see for yourself. I wouldn't say there is a jock frat, or an anorexic blonde sorority tho.

There are bands you can either start or try to join. But I don't know of any university sponsored rock groups. Usually its a few friends who get together.

The rape thing is soooo blown out of proportion. There has been a guy who has raped like 7 people in 10 years or something. Its just that its the same guy. And he hasn't been around for like 2 or 3 years. You don't have to worry about that.

I wouldn't come here thinking to transfer. Thats pretty stupid. Its no harder or easier to transfer anywhere from here than any other school - so take that as you will. Besides, whether you want to realize it, or the majority of people on this board want to realize it, you won't get a better education at an "ivy" than at UVa. You do well here and you'll be interviewing at the same places their students are.

UVa got its wild party reputation during the 80s. It was a **** show from everything I've been told by alumni. Things have severely calmed down since then, but I'd still call it a party school.

hope this helps
