can someone tell me reality and help please?

Hi, i am currently enrolled in some community college in CA.

my major is mechanical engineering with 2.8 GPA...

I have been following assist.org for taking classes and all i have to take from now on are

Courses that i need for UCSB/UCD:
Introduction to Linear Algebra (will be taking this spring)
Introduction to Electrical Circuits and Devices (will be taking this Spring)
Engineering Graphics (will be taking this Spring)
(trying to put one more GE class for this Spring semester)
Differential Equations
Statics

extra courses for UCD tag
Properties of Materials
Introduction to Solving Structured Programming
Interpersonal Communication

Plus about 3 more GE courses to finish IGETC.

i know UCD wants 3.3 GPA for tag as an engineer, and 3.4 for UCSB.
I am not sure if UCD still takes engineers with TAG.

However, I can bring my GPA up to 3.1 by end of 2014 spring semester and 3.34 by end of 2014 fall semester.

The real problem is that my 2014 Fall GPA won't be included when I apply for Tag and will be having over 80 UC transferable units.

I know many people would say I fked up my life...

of course I do have my excuses for such horrible GPA and all...but in real life/society... no one cares about what happened and it is true that I was not strong enough to handle such situations.

my worst excuse would be my Physics professor did not grade our finals, lab reports, and some quizzes so I decided to take only one class this semester...
most students and I filed grievance form to solve this problem, but it sure did make me fk my life even harder...

Anyway, can you guys give me good advice to me?

I am ready to take anything from you guys.

Summary:
1) where can I transfer as mechanical Engineering w/ 3.1 by 2014 spring & 3.34 GPA as Fall
suggest only CA schools please because my family can't afford such tuition.

2) Is it true that UCs look at my Fall grade for overall GPA as regular applicants, but not for TAG applicants? in other words, do I have to have 3.3 GPA when I apply for UCD TAG?

3) Would UCD/UCSB still take me as TAG if i have 3.4 but have over 90 units?

thank you for helping me!

You should meet with a transfer counselor at your school. Also you can find a lot of information online at the schools about the TAG program. It used to be that it didn’t matter how many units you had accumulated as long as they all were from community colleges. I think that still applies, but I’m not sure.

You can only TAG one UC.

From [UC Davis TAG - FAQ](TAG Frequently Asked Questions)

I don’t know what your major is (civil engineering?), but if you’re not applying to the ones listed above I think you’re fine.

Further information from: [Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) Program » College of Engineering UC Davis](Transfer Admission Resources) states:

Do note the site is slightly outdated since it seems to indicate that chemical and mechanical engineering majors are still eligible for a TAG.

It makes sense to me that 3.3 is the required GPA at the time of application for the UCD TAG since your TAG decision is given in November, before your fall grades are reported.

Oh, also from [UC Davis TAG - FAQ](TAG Frequently Asked Questions)

How long have you been at community college? Can you handle a heavy course load? Have you been able to do so in the past? I don’t want to dampen your spirits, but a lot of well laid plans don’t come to fruition… If at all possible I would spread out your major-related courses and stay an extra year and work to achieve the best grades possible if you are insistent on applying for the TAG at either school.

UCSB does not seem to have as much information about the TAG as UCD, but there’s this:

http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/pdf/UCSB%20Fall%20TAG.pdf</a>
It seems that UCSB will consider your GPA at the end of the fall semester (overall 3.2GPA/major 3.4GPA).

Best of luck.

So your best shot is UCSBand you’ll likely be able to TAG there if you meet your GPA goals.

I recommend looking into some CSU’s. I’m not sure which ones have engineering programs but look into them anyway. You still have a year to pull up that GPA. Work hard and your work will be displayed by the grade you earn.

thank you everyone!!!

I have been in cc for 3 years that is why i already have about 60 units.

@elephapple since my major is mechanical engineering i can’t tag to UCD?
and I will stay another year because that would be the only choice for me.
taking heavy load of courses is not the problem for me as long as I focus throughout the semesters.

@stanx89 thank you! I will look into it, but I do not know if my parents would support me with this idea tho.

@lfghj007 you are doing this for you. That’s the problem here in California parents here always down grade the CSU education. I think those are great schools that can get you a decent job. All it takes is networking.

Parents need to stay out of their kids college decisions. Colleges want you to think and act for yourself. Parents cripple students when they get involved in that process.

@stanx89 do you have any recommend CSU for mechanical engineering?
and how hard to continue my education after undergrad from CSU?
meaning getting BS from CSU and grad from UC because i am thinking about getting masters to increase my chance of getting decent job plus more salary.
